The LTP (“Long term preservation” or “Digital preservation”) process involves heavily working with metadata. There are many metadata standards like METS, PREMIS, DC, MODS, MIX. These standards noticeably help with guidance on how to store metada. The problem is that each LTP archive or even each entity type (digitalized book, e-book,..) inside LTP archive needs a different set of metadata in different contexts. Also requirements like searching or reporting over metadata in archive can differ and these requirements change over time.
As the result we could have rich metadata structures designed for AIP, but with poor ability to process the metadata correctly.
The software SAFE LTP mining itself is free and we are considering to release it as open source.
In accordance with OAIS. Suitable for LTP archive certification (TRAC, DSA, Nestor Seal).
Open API Interface (REST, WebService). Due to natural flexibility, LTP mining can receive DIP from any LTP source – for example Archivematica. An AXF connector will be available soon. Can run on Linux, OS X, Windows. Can run as a cloud service.
Can be easily customized by GUI interface or Java Plugin system. Metadata parsing is done with XPath standard. Ad-hoc queries can be defined via CMIS Query standard. Automatic reports can be easily created by using jasper report technology.
Can process very big amount of metadata from serveral LTP archives at the same time. Support for paraller cloud import. Optimized for speed.
The installation process of AIP SAFE LTP Metadata mining involves three steps:
